Ceisteanna do Gerry

Blog Gerry Adams: An bhfreagrófar mo cheisteanna?

Seo trachtaireacht atá seolta agam chuig Blog Gerry Adams, Léargas, le fáil amach go díreach cad é atá aontaithe i dtaobh na Gaeilge sa Chomhaontú a aontaíodh le linn na seachtaine seo chaite ag Caislean Cromghlinne.   Tá an trachtaireacht i mBéarla.  Tuigim go bhfuil an Ghaeilge ag Gerry Adams ach ag an am chéanna, theastaigh uaim nach mbeadh aon amhras faoi na ceisteanna agus go dtuigfeadh sé go raibh mé ag lorg freagraí le sonraithe beachta uaidh.   Níl níos lú ná sin tuillte ag pobal na Gaeilge.

A great deal of comment – fuelled by your own statements on RTE and elsewhere on Monday for instance – focused on what specific pledges on Irish language provision would end up in the Agreement. An Irish Language Act? An Irish language strategy, previously promised in 2007 by Edwin Poots when he axed the Irish Language Act promised in the St Andrew’s Agreement? In the end, in the document I read, there was no mention at all of the Irish Language. No strategy? No Act? Nothing. What’s the deal? Is there a deal on the Irish language that hasn’t been publicised in case it might discommode Unionist political leaders? Or is it merely that the language was overlooked entirely? We’ve heard rumours about more money for the Irish Language Broadcast Fund (£15m?) and for Irish language projects on the ground (£8m?). Can you outline in detail what’s been secured for the Irish language in the latest negotiations? If anything has been secured, has the DUP signed up to it and will we see an end to the sniping from the wings by DUP and UUP politicians, denigrating the Irish language and those who speak it? Will there be, for instance, substantial funding to develop the Gaeltacht Quarter, on a par with the funding delivered for the Odyssey in East Belfast? I believe these are fair questions which deserve specific detailed answers. In the past my experience that such questioning doesn’t feature on this website and is not encouraged. Maybe I’m being unfair – but I’d like to have my expectations of non disclosure confounded. I will post this post on Slugger O’Toole and my own website in anticipation of your early and detailed response, Go raibh maith agat….

Tá an postáil sin foilsithe anois ar shuíomh Gerry Adams – ach níl aon freagra go fóíll.

Tá léargas nios soiléire ar chás na Gaeilge le fáil san alt seo ó pheann Peter Robinson sa Newsletter:

We have a manifesto commitment against the introduction of an Irish Language Act. This was due to be introduced by Direct Rule. There will be no Irish language Act.

Sin é i mbeagán focail, deireadh leis an bhfeachtas ar son Acht na Gaeilgee agus tá Comhaontú Chill Rimhinn ar ghruinneal na farraige.   Dhealródh sé ón ráiteas sin gur tabhachtaí an geallúintí i manifesto an DUP ná na geallúintí i gComhaontú sholúnta idirnáisiúnta Chill Rimhinn.

Seo  léargas ó pheann Gerry Adams ar chás na Gaeilge in alt uaidh sa Guardian.

The agreement that has now been reached will not only see the transfer of powers on policing and justice in April, but also by the end of the year the transfer of responsibility from London to Belfast for dealing with the issue of parades. We have also agreed a process to progress the rights of Irish language speakers, clear the backlog of executive papers and decisions which are still pending, and advance the all-Ireland aspects of the St Andrews agreement. It is a detailed and timeframed agreement.

Caithfidh mé a rá nach miste liom Acht na Gaeilge ann nó as, chomh fada agus go bhfuil feabhas suntasach ar chás na nGaeilgeoirí ó thuaidh.  Má chuireann tú an dhá ráíteas seo ón dhá cheannaire i gcodarsnacht lena cheile, is léir go bhfuil Peter Robinson níos cinnte agus níos deimhní nach mbeidh aon dul chun cinn ann ó thaobh Acht na Gaeilge.  Tá seisean tar éis an rud a bhí uaidh a fháíl.

Cad é an rud a chiallaíónn ‘we have agreed a process to progress the rights of Irish speakers’.  Cén sórt dul chun cinn ata i gceist?     Más amhlaidh gur ghéill Sinn Féin agus Rialtas na hÉireann don DUP ar cheist Acht na Gaeilge, dul chun cinn a bhí sa bhanc agus ar phár theana féin, an féidir bheith cinnte go bhfuil aon dul chun cinn i ndánta do chearta na nGaeilgeoirí?

is í an abairt is suntasaí i ráiteas an Uasail Adams is dóigh liom ná go nabrann sé ” with the involvment of Irish speakers to figure all this out” .Ma tharlaiónn sé sin is é an chéad uair é ó síníodh Comhaontú Aoine an Chéasta gur ghlac siad barúlacha lucht na Gaeilge sa aireamh nó dala gach páirtí eile ag an am nuair a cuireadh Foras na Gaeilge ar bun ghaibh siad seilbh ar na postanna uilig gan dul i gcomhair leo siud a bhí ag déanamh na oibre ar an talamh ach go raibh Sinn Féin níos measa ná na páirtíthe eile sa mhéid agus gur bhaill den pháirtí amháin a cheap siad agus gur fágfadh lucht na gGaeilge ar an bhlár fholamh gan aon smacht ar an chuid a ba thabhachtaí de obair an Fhorais mar a bhí rannadh an airgid. Nuair a bhí SF amuigh san fhuacht bhí gearán dlisteanach acu nach raibh tré dhearcacht ag baint leis na próiséís éagsúla ó thuaidh agus go raibh imeallú déanta ar phoblachtóirí da bharr. Nach íorónach an scéál é go ndearna siad féin an rud céanna nuair a fuair siad an fhaill chuige. Má’s athrú polasaí é anois dul i gcomhair le Gaeilgeoirí ar an talamh is maith an tathrú é. Dá mba rud é go raibh daoine tuigseanach ar an Fhoras ag na pairtíthe is féidir nach gcuirfí deireadh le Lá ná le Foinse le nach mbeadh an “Teanga Náisiúnta” le feiceáil níos mó ar sheilfeanna shiopaí nuachtáin na tíre agus nach bhfuil fágtha againn ach páipéar Gaeilge dena chóta breá Béarla. ” hidden Ireland” bí gheall!!
